The Retail Software Development Manager supports system enhancement, system strategy, production support, and solution design for our Retail Service Organization. They will partner with internal stakeholders to understand the business and technology landscape of the company as it relates to retail store applications including point of sale, catalog, and inventory management applications. The Retail Application Development Manager builds and manages a team of developers who are responsible for executing the design, technical build, support, and maintenance of store systems.

Essential job functions

  • Responsible for all new and modified systems in their area of responsibility.
  • Directs the effort of developers and engineers in the analysis, design, development, and implementation of application(s).
  • Meets with key stakeholders to determine hardware/software systems requirements, leading systems hardware/software design, planning projects, establishing priorities, and monitoring progress.
  • Plans or oversees the analysis, design, programming, timely implementation, and testing of applications projects utilizing approved development methodologies.
  • Management of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Interviews and hires qualified team members, completes and administers evaluations and mid-year reviews, and manages performance improvement plans, progressive disciplines, and/or terminations.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 6 + years of software development experience and/or supervisory experience in an area applicable to O'Reilly.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience leading and managing a team of application development supervisors and developers
  • Experience working with key stakeholders to plan objectives and the strategy to comply and address the risks to the business.
  • Experience leading and managing large cross departmental projects following the software development life cycle standards.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedule including nights/weekends.
  • Experience working directly with business partners on operational issues and communicating effectively to senior management.


  • Bachelor's Degree in computer Science, Business Administration, Project Management or combination of equivalent experience and education.
  • Prior project management experience in driving improvement strategies, requirement gathering, implementation, development and documentation and provide support for current and ongoing projects.
