What you'll do...

H&R Block is on a digital transformation journey to bring new experiences & offerings to serve our clients. The Director, Marketing & Customer Data Platforms is responsible for launching & managing marketing & customer data platforms as a part of this transformation. As a direct report to the VP, Enterprise Architecture & Information Management, this person will be accountable for planning, delivering & managing marketing technology platforms & customer data platforms to support HRB operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Partner with marketing teams to deliver Marketing technology platforms
  • Build & manage Customer data platforms to support HRB operations
  • Manage client data in compliance with Information governance, data privacy & data protection policies
  • Plan, design, deliver, and manage technology platforms
  • Assess & deploy emerging technologies to support marketing and business operations across all lines of business
  • Drive adoption of client data services across the enterprise to improve customer intimacy

  1. Strategic Planning (30%)

  • Plan & manage the strategy for marketing platforms and client data operations.

  • Build & execute a roadmap, including technology & organizational infrastructure to realize strategic goals for this team

  • Develop data engineering & management procedures/practices in compliance with information governance, InfoSec and privacy policies at HRB

  • Work closely with executive management to monitor current system performance, develop future program strategy and long-term vision leveraging new technologies to meet emerging business needs

  1. Resource Management

  • Grow and manage a high performing team of engineers, analysts and platforms owners with a passion for data technologies and what data can do to transform client experience & business operations

  • Create an environment that inspires the team to deliver creative solutions with measurable impact for HRB and our clients

  • Actively mentor and coach team members to build, develop, and enhance their management and leadership skills

  • Provide leadership and ongoing status updates and communications for respective stakeholders. Coach managers on talent acquisition, talent development & performance management.

  1. Execution Management

  • Deliver on business needs for marketing technologies & operations in the enterprise

  • Deliver client & tax data operations platforms & solutions to enable HRB business operations

  • Build and manage platforms in compliance with data governance, InfoSec and privacy requirements

  • Drive the development of data-based products and services

  • Lead the R&D efforts for emerging technologies and applications which may provide H&R Block with tangible business benefit

Minimum Requirements


Bachelor's degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience.

  1. Ability to create strategies and plans for marketing technology platforms & client data operations to support overall business strategy

  1. Bold leadership with a proven track record of delivering breakthrough solutions

  1. Experience in data platforms development

  1. Thought leadership in this domain with the ability to influence executive leadership and shape technology strategy

  1. Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven experience in relationship building and partnering across functional teams

  1. 10+ years of experience leading, designing, delivering data platforms & services

  1. An inclusive, hands-on leadership style with proven experience leading, motivating, developing and inspiring a team to commit to bold ideas & stretch goals

  1. Demonstrated leadership, presentation & negotiation skills

Preferred Qualifications
