The Manager of Trend will lead the creative concept process for a segment of the product assortment across the DSG private brands. Core responsibilities of the role include researching the macro market to curate and create the trend and lifestyle direction for the upcoming season.  Once creating the direction, it is the responsibility of the Manager of Trend to present the seasonal trend with regards to print, color, fabric, and silhouette to cross functional partners and leadership across the Product Development division.   The Manager of Trend will act as a thought leader with the Design, Product Management and Sourcing teams to  support the creation of thoughtful, relevant and trend-right content for all touch points from product ideation to completion.   In this role, the Manager of Trend will support the shaping of the branding direction of DSG through trend research on all platforms by remaining current on industry trends and the competitive landscape to forecast and identify upcoming trends.


The ideal candidate for the role is a seasoned product and consumer expert, with relevant experience in the product categories he/she will lead (athletic, outdoor, golf.   In addition, the ideal candidate must demonstrate global market and trend awareness, the ability to interpret trend in a meaningful way for a target athlete and the ability to turn research into actionable strategies.  This role requires strong presentation skills, an entrepreneurial mindset, a strategic taste level and the ability to influence both up and down the organization.

Drive Creative Concept:

  • Complete comprehensive in market research, both domestically and abroad, to assess macro level trends within assigned product category(s).  Shop aspirational brands and retailers in order to identify white space, innovation, consumer shifts  and market direction.

  • Analyze existing time and action calendar and develop category trend analysis for color, fabric and trim innovation concepts ahead of calendar deliverables.  Inform decision making about seasonal trend in collaboration with Design and Business Strategy teams through presentation of findings at key milestone meetings.

  • Drive collection and creation of images to represent and illustrate current and future trends as related to assigned category(s).  Leverage apparel graphic and brand design teams to create original print, pattern and artwork that illustrates the creative direction for the upcoming season.

  • Act as the subject matter expert in cultural and lifestyle trends through digital research.  Share expertise with cross functional partners to ensure color, print, pattern, trim and design direction aligns to the consumer buying patterns within product category(s).

Build Cross Functional Partnership:

  • Present during seasonal line review with Leadership across Product Development and Merchandising with guidance from the Director of Design.   Drive follow-up actions resulting from collaborative conversations throughout the feedback process.

  • Attend seasonal strategy meetings with Design, Sourcing and Product Management.   Provide insights to inform the creative development of the seasonal conceptual and aesthetic approach

  • Partner with Marketing, Brand Design and Visual Merchandising to ensure all supporting collateral developed in support of assigned category(s) aligns with the overall aesthetic direction of the seasonal line.  Provide insights and research to drive innovation and cultural/social awareness.

Customer Focus:

  • Keep up-to-date information of customer identity and interests relating to social and cultural influences and relay information to the Product Management and Design teams.

  • Shop competition, attend trade shows and meet with market influencers to take photos/buy samples to pull together inspiration.


Bachelor's degree in Consumer Science, Marketing, Design or a related field

7 - 10 years

3+ years in consumer behavior or product development roles in Design, Creative Product Direction or Market Research
