GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direction of the District General Manager, this position is responsible for the leadership of the in-home technical workgroup and contractors to achieve business results and goals around HVAC installation and repair. Within HVAC installation, the person is responsible for the control and management of the installation and service process for SHIP HVAC products within the district. The DTM is responsible for annual installed volume, district backlog conversion rate, materials management, quality scores, product cycle time, and gross profit margin. Responsible for management of the independent contractor and employee technician workforce. Within HVAC repair, this position provides management of the employee workforce to achieve business results and goals. This includes managing scheduling, quality/customer satisfaction, technical training, work force performance management. This position has the authority to identify, recruit, train and develop contractors and associates in accordance with Sears' requirements. The incumbent is responsible to periodically inspect the work of all new contractors and technicians to ensure that the quality and consistency of workmanship meets Sears' standards. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES The incumbent maintains general responsibility for: - Management of HVAC product lines in the district. - Effective and profitable management of the district installation function to the following target metrics are met: backlog conversion rate, cycle time, gross profit margins and quality scores. - Effective balance of the ratio of installations done by contractors and employee technicians to maintain baseline minimum of hours for technicians while managing risk of contractor attrition. - Provide guidance and direction in the installation process by supervising all jobs in progress. - Support the installation process by managing communications with the customer on jobs in progress and service issues. - Support the installation process by identifying, communicating and resolving contract issues with sales staff. The incumbent maintains specific sub-contractor responsibility for: - Ensure all contractors carry the required insurance coverage, and ensure that the coverage remains current. - Support the installation process by identifying, recruiting, training and developing contractors and employee technicians. The incumbent maintains specific technician responsibility for: - Review customer metric data and develop plans to improve satisfaction levels. - Utilize workforce planning process to develop staffing requirements that allow for profitable growth and customer satisfaction. - Monitor key performance to state of service, cost per call, productivity, and rate of lead referral for new systems, Partner with DGM to monitor and improve technician sales conversion rates. - Recognize and act upon every opportunity to drive revenue through the embedment of the Value Added Services Program (VASP) throughout the district. - Foster positive employee relations through ready meetings, frequent tech rides, focus groups, phone calls, SST messages, handling associate complaints and employee recognition and award meetings. - Implement, direct, adhere and ensure compliance to all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies, company values and code of conduct. - Responsible for the recruitment, and hiring, and performance management and career pathing of direct reports. - Partner with the loss prevention to reduce shrinkage. - Maintain detailed records of all associate training and evaluations. Education/Experience Requirements - Four year college degree preferred - Clear Background check and drug test - Two years management experience and/or assignments that demonstrate leadership ability preferably in a virtual environment - In states where HVAC or Refrigeration technicians must take and pass a State Licensing Test, the Technical Managers supervising these technicians must also take and pass the State Licensing Test - Required Job Capabilities - Make fact-based decisions, but exercise creativity, and take responsible risks. - Demonstrate effective problem solving and resolution skills when working with customers and coaching associates. - Demonstrate ability to manage a virtual workforce and effectively communicate via non-traditional means. - Display the use of effective decision making skills. - Ability to multitask and effectively manage time. - Ability to adapt and be an advocate for change. - Ability to read, analyze and utilize reports. - Ability to use computer systems to input, access, modify, or output information or to execute programs or analyses. - Commitment to safety - Use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). - Performance of miscellaneous duties as assigned.
