This job contributes to Starbucks success by managing the development of strategic plans, annual budgets and quarterly forecasting. Leads a team of finance professionals in conducting financial analysis of key performance measures and planning for a consolidated Starbucks business unit or the Company. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following: Leadership - Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:
- Acts as a leader among peers, incorporating key priorities for both the consolidated business unit represented and the total Company. May manage a large team, or other managers.
- Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
- Supports the implementation of company programs to ensure the success of the Company.
- Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams to coordinate and provide guidance on strategic plans, annual budgets and quarterly forecasts. Ensures effective communication and timely resolution of conflicts
Planning and Execution - Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results:
- Drives the company or a business unit's long-range financial and business plan
- Plans and manages business unit/department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives.
- Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization.
Business Requirements - Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:
- Creates and implements processes and tools used in financial controls. Develops and distributes all required business unit or department reporting. Establishes report content, format, frequency and distribution schedules, and convenes review meetings. Ensures integrity and managerial usefulness of operational and sub-system reports. May develop and implement training programs in cost/price and financial analysis and auditing.
- Creates and implements processes and tools used in financial planning. May lead strategic planning, annual planning, and quarterly forecasting efforts for a consolidated business unit or total Company. Manages consolidated business unit integration with the company business planning calendar, and develops internal planning calendar for the business units supported. May lead the development of the total Company business planning calendar, and recommend changes or improvements to senior leadership. Creates and ensures accurate and timely budgets, strategic plans and forecasts for the consolidated business unit or total Company. Leads review sessions for annual operating plan and forecast with senior business unit leadership and senior finance leadership.
- Ensures systems are consistent and integrated with the business practices they support. Identifies key issues and weaknesses, provides solutions for improvement, and manages the implementation of system enhancements.
- Leads team in generating strategic and tactical recommendations in support of business objectives and then presents them to senior management. Leads the creation of models, conducts research, and analyzes actual business unit performance against targets in the operating plans, strategic plans, forecasts and sales incentive plans as applicable. Quantifies opportunities and risks, and recommends alternatives. Conducts ad hoc analyses as needed to support operational decision-making.
- May participate in or lead cost and price discussions with external or internal parties.

- Budgeting and forecasting (8 years)
- Financial analysis, including variance analysis, cost allocation, fact-finding or auditing, contract and price negotiation (8 years)
- Management or supervision (5 years)
- Progressive experience in financial management (4 years)

- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

- Working knowledge of all aspects of financial analysis and management
