JOB TITLE: Assistant Deli/Bakery/HMS Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION:
This description is intended to outline the primary responsibilities, general nature, and level of work being performed by people assigned to this position. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and competencies of the Assistant Deli/Bakery/HMS. The incumbent may be assigned other duties and responsibilities.

JOB OBJECTIVE
The Assistant Deli/Bakery/HMS Manager is responsible for assisting the Deli/Bakery/HMS Manager to build sales and achieve sales goals, maintaining standards according to the Standard Practice Deli Manual, assist in training of Deli/Bakery/HMS associates and maximize sales through excellent customer service.

REPORTING FUNCTION
Reports directly to the Deli/Bakery/HMS Manager. In their absence, reports to the Assistant Manager Fresh or the Manager on Duty.

SCOPE
Occasionally provides direction to all Deli/Bakery/HMS Department associates.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Enthusiastic about food and food preparation. Serve as a model for extraordinary customer service and instills this value in associates. Ability to actively engage customers through a high level of salesmanship to encourage additional purchases and gain trial of new and signature products.
A high school graduate or equivalent preferred. Strong understanding of store operations and merchandising techniques preferred. Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job. Ability to use technical information to solve problems. Minimum age requirement 18 years old.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Foster hearty, genuine relationships with associates and consumers
Ensure the maintenance of the department s appearance and presentation
Assist in managing department operations in accordance with established
department standard practices.
Provide leadership to select and develop associates. Creates an environment
for continual learning and encourages an open dialogue among associates.
Set expectations and hold others accountable through the use of clear
communications, feedback, and positive reinforcement
Cultivate a sustainable energy and enthusiasm throughout the department
Assist in attaining departmental financial objectives
Supervise performance of all duties and responsibilities of all Deli/Bakery/HMS
Associates as assigned by the Department Manager
Use good judgment in the delegation, assignment, and follow-up required for the
efficient performance of the department
Ensure the maintenance of accurate records of production, shrink, sales, and
inventory
Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without
reasonable accommodations
Manage all aspects of the Department when the Deli/Bakery/HMS Manager is off.
Encourage diversity, awareness, generosity, and respect for ourselves and each
other
Provide recognition of accomplishments and offer constructive counseling when
necessary
Ensure department associates are properly trained and have the tools to succeed
Develop product knowledge in all areas of the Deli/Bakery/HMS Department
Retrieve and organize product loads
Assist in effectively ordering and maintaining inventory control to maximize
sales and limit shrink issues
Ensure operational and merchandising standard practices are followed to
maximize profitability, paying special attention to product rotation
Maintain solid communication in the department and throughout the organization
Observe and ensure compliance with company sanitation, safety, and food
safety standards
Understand the causes and means for resolving and limiting shrink
Have total understanding of the department s Standard Practice Manual
Perform all other duties and projects as assigned by the Deli/Bakery/HMS
Manager
Perform all other duties as assigned


ESSENTIAL SKILLS
Ability to use computers and other communication systems required to perform
the job functions
Perform repetitive grasping, pinching, squeezing, and hand/arm motions while
standing/walking the majority of the shift
Lift up to 30 lbs. 40% of the time and up to 40 lbs. occasionally
Reach to shoulder level or overhead on occasion while lifting up to 20 lbs. on
occasion
Tolerate working in extreme hot/cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes at a time
Use hands to operate controls, feel objects and use tools to prepare products
Be able to handle a variety of substances associated with cleaning materials,
packaging materials, and food products
