Job Summary and Mission
This job contributes to Starbucks success by ensuring the stability of enterprise-wide computer operating systems and networks through problem identification and analysis, problem resolution, security administration and third-level support in a continuously-operational production environment. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following: - Acts as problem manager for problems identified within computing infrastructure. Responds to complex system problems, takes corrective action, and refers problem to third-level support when required, using established dispatch procedures.
- Administers security for the operating systems and networks by enforcing system and data access policies through well-defined procedures and scripts.
- Develops and recommends new processes and procedures relevant to the operating systems and networks and ensures proper documentation.
- Ensures Enterprise Systems Administration changes to the production environment are made in a timely and high-quality manner. Performs hardware and software installation into the production environment following guidelines from Enterprise Engineering departments.
- Maintains and returns operating systems and networks to specification, in a large-scale, heterogeneous, continuously operational production systems environment.
- May lead and mentor less experienced team members.
Summary of Experience - Windows networking and systems administration (5 years)
- Using diagnostic, monitoring, problem and change management tools such as Remedy (4 years)
- Ability to write scripts to automate provisioning activities as they apply to Windows and Exchange environments (2 years)
- Working within an established project management framework (2 years)
- Mentoring less experienced systems administrators (1 year)
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting system problems in a complex, heterogeneous systems environment
- Attention to detail
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Customer service skills
- Ability to develop detailed processes, procedures and scripts for use within the team
- Ability to interpret faults and correlate events for problem determination within a large, heterogeneous systems environment
- Ability to produce system performance and capacity reports and perform tactical analysis
- Knowledge of Windows 2000, 2003, 2008 networking and Active Directory account management. Understanding of Cisco Unity voicemail system.
- Prior use of request management and trouble ticketing systems
- Good problem diagnosis and troubleshooting skills
